En un día como hoy, 24 de noviembre, pero hace ya 17 años, la musica perdía a uno de sus mas grandes exponentes. Me refiero al vocalista de Queen, el gran Freddie Mercury.

A principios de los ’90, Queen nos deleitaba y sorprendía con un nuevo disco de estudio llamada Innuendo, el cual era bastante interesante, partiendo por el diseño del album con ilustraciones del francés Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard, más conocido por el seudonimo de Grandville, el cual vivió en el siglo XIX.

El disco fue recibido con aplausos por el público y la crítica, destacándose varias canciones, entre ellas la que mostramos, a modo de homenaje, en el post de hoy. The show must go on fue escrita por Brian May y Freddie Mercury, siendo considerada una de las más poderosas canciones de Queen.

Este tema tiene una letra que muestra los sentimientos y las reflexiones de alguien a quien se le va la vida, pero que lleva implicito el mensaje de que el show debe continuar, lo cual hace que la canción sea más sobrecogedora, sabiendo que Mercury estaba perdiendo la batalla contra el SIDA. Como anécdota se puede contar que en los demos es May quien canta el tema en el demo que le presenta a Mercury. Pero este decide cantar la canción ya que se siente en condiciones físicas y vocales de hacerlo, pese a que es un tema dificil, vocalmente hablando. Sin embargo, tras un sorbo de vodka, Mercury logró cantar el tema sin problemas, dejando plasmada en el disco la mejor de las despedidas.

Por esto, como un homenaje en el día en que se conmemoran 17 años de su partida, los dejo con Queen y The show must go on.
