Para terminar esta semana volvemos a los años ’80, con una agrupación de corta vida pero que más de algún tema nos dejo. Me refiero a Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians.

Edie Brickell es una cantautora norteamericana que partió con su carrera en los años ’80, cuando se encontraba estudiando en Dallas en la Universidad Metodista Sureña. Una noche, en un bar, tomó la decisión de subirse a cantar al escenario acompañando a una banda local que llevaba el nombre de New Bohemians.

Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians debutaron en 1988 con su disco Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars. What I Am fue el gran éxito de ese disco, un tema que llegó al número 7 del Billboard. Mucha gente ubica el tema, aunque no siempre a la banda que lo interpreta.

La carrera de esta agrupación siguió con otro disco en 1990 y con la realización del cover para A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall de Bob Dylan. El tema aparece en la banda sonora de la película Nacido el 4 de Julio, protagonizada por Tom Cruise.

Mucho más de la banda no se escuchó en Chile. De hecho Edie Brickell grabó algunos discos en solitario, aunque volvió a reunirse en el año 2006 con algunos miembros originales de la banda para grabar un nuevo disco: Stranger Things.

Pero en la historia quedó grabado este gran tema de 1988: What I Am. Que lo disfruten!!.
