A comienzos de los ‘90, el duo sueco Roxette tuvo sus 15 minutos de fama, con una buena cantidad de sus temas ubicados en los primeros lugares de los rankings mundiales. Hoy los invito a recordar una tremenda balada de 1991: Spending My Time.

El tema forma parte del disco Joyride, quizás el más exitoso en cuanto a ventas del duo. La canción, además, fue lanzada como single e, inclusive, tuvo una versión en español llamada “Un día sin tí”.

La autoriía de la canción pertenece a Per Gessle y le fue bien en los rankings. alcanzando el puesto 32 del Billboard, mintras que en Canadá y Alemania estuvo entre las 10 primeras de las listas musicales.

Esta balada, como muchas de las canciones que hemos subido en estos dias, más que de amor hablan de desamor. Si Sras y Sres, Spending My Time es un tema que habla de ese momento en que la relación se termina pero uno queda enganchado, esos días que siguen al fin, en resumen, una canción corta venas por donde se le mire.

Pero muchos en su época la bailaron y la dedicaron, por lo que se gana un puesto más que merecido en este especial de canciones lentas. Que la disfruten!!

El tema lento de hoy, y que abre la segunda semana de este especial de San Valentín, es de un grupo cuyo gran éxito se vio a fines de los años ‘80 y principios de los ‘90. Me refiero a Poison y su temazo Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

En 1988 Poison sacaba a la venta su segundo disco el cual lleva por nombre Open Up And Say…Ahh!. Definida como una power ballad, el tema nace luego del fin de una relación con su novia de entonces. Según el propio Bret Michaels en entrevista a VH1, la canción nació una noche cuando estaba de gira con Poison en Dallas. Luego del concierto, Michaels fue a una lavandería y mientras esperaba que su ropa se secara decidió llamar a su novia desde un teléfono público. Su sopresa fue grande cuando, en vez de su novia, fue un hombre el que le contestó. Esa relación fallida lo inspiró a componer Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

El tema fue todo un éxito, llegando al número en la lista del Billboard, y quedando como una de las grandes power balads de fines de los ‘80, especial para bailar en pareja.

Para finalizar esta primera semana dedicada a las grandes lentos, terminaremos con un tema en español, aparecido en 1984 y que pertenece al disco homónimo de la banda argentina Soda Stereo. Se acuerdan de Tratame Suavemente?.

Esta es la unica canción que no fue escrita por ningún miembro de la banda. El autor de este temazo es Daniel Melero, amigo de la banda y que años después, en 1992, realizaría en conjunto con Cerati ese gran disco llamado Colores Santos (muy recomendado).

Sin embargo, y puede que no muchos sepan el dato, la versión original es de un grupo en el cual participaba Melero, llamado Los Encargados, quienes la grabaron en 1984, pero solo pudieron lanzarla al mercado en 1986.

Tratame Suavemente fue un gran éxito en su época, lento obligado en las fiestas de mitad de los ‘80, y uno de los temas clásicos de la banda. Para muchos es la gran canción de su disco debút.

Si alguno de nosotros pensaba que la etapa de los lentos (o “blues”) se había terminado en los ‘90, debo decirles que eso no es así. Si bien ya no es requisito que un solista o banda deba grabar un tema de este tipo como caballito de batalla, en los comienzo del siglo XXI, aún se siguen escribiendo buenos temas para bailar en pareja.

El de hoy es uno de esos. Apareció en el año 2007 interpretado por la canadiense Avril Lavigne, y forma parte de su disco The Best Damn Thing. Me refiero a la balada When You’re Gone.

Concebida como un tema que habla de “cuando estás con alguien a quien amas, y debes decir adios y todas esas pequeñas cosas que extrañas de el”, en palabras de la propia Avril. Aunque nunca lo ha confirmado existen rumores que la canción habría nacido inspirado por quien era en esos instantes su esposo, Deryck Whibley.

La cantante ha dicho que no trató de hacer una canción de amor, sino que un tema más bien lento y con sentimiento. Aunque revistas como Billboard han definido este tema como una “power ballad”.

En los rankings tuvo resultados dispares. Por ejemplo en Argentina llegó al número 1, mientras que en USA apenas alcanzó a ser número 24 en el ranking del Billboard.

En el día de hoy, cuando la música que más escucha (comercialmente hablando) parece haber abandonado las baladas, se agradecen temas como estos. Así que les presento a Avril Lavigne con When You’re Gone.

En el día de hoy la invitación es a recordar este gran tema, uno de mis lentos favoritos, y que forma parte de uno de los primeros discos que mi memoria recuerda haber escuchado, a eso de los 5 años de edad, en el ya lejano 1981. Con ustedes la E.L.O y su Need Her Love

El tema forma parte de Discovery, el disco que E.L.O sacó al mercado en 1979 y que fue el primer disco número 1 del grupo en los rankings del Reino Unido. Además es el primer disco donde no participa el trio original encargado de los instrumentos de cuerda formado por Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell y Melvyn Gale.

Need Her Love fue, junto con Midnight Blue, parte de las baladas de ese disco, verdaderas obras maestras creadas por el genio de Jeff Lynne. Para muchos este no es el mejor disco de la E.L.O pero si el más comercial.

En esa oportunidad el grupo no realizó ninguna gira, pero si grabó varios videos, a manera de compensación. Obviamente que Need Her Love fue una de las canciones que tuvo apoyo audiovisual, aunque en el estilo de fines de los ‘70.

Need Her Love sigue siendo, hasta hoy, una de las mejores baladas de la E.L.O, con influencia de The Beatles, una excelente opción para bailar o dedicar a la persona que quieres.

Otro lento, quizás no tan conocido pero si altamente recomendable, es el que les presentamos hoy, a cargo de la cantante británica Beverly Craven.

Originalmente lanzada como single de su disco debút, Promise Me no fue un éxito de inmediato, sino que solo repuntó en las listas luego de diversas apariciones de la cantante en la televisión británica y una gira realizada por el país.

Después de Promise Me, la carrera de Beverly no tuvo mayores éxitos a nivel mundial, aunque sigue grabando hasta el día de hoy.

Esta balada se puede considerar como uno de los buenos temas de comienzos de los ‘90. Y, además, un tema que vale la pena bailar junto a esa persona tan especial.
